Hi, I’m Rachel Gross. Mother of a few. Wife to one. An Orthodox Jew. Owner of one seriously neglected goldfish that refuses to die.
On the good days, I live with the Divine. On the less good days, I live with the on-going struggle to bring the Divine into my life. I wasn’t raised Orthodox. This very much happened by accident.
I was looking to understand the divine nature of the universe and find my place in the unfolding story of history. I was pretty surprised to find the answers behind a Rabbi’s beard.
Turns out that the Torah had a lot of answers, which was good because I had a lot of questions. To my surprise, the religion I discounted in my youth for not being cool enough had enough answers to last a lifetime, and wisdom to light the way.
Since you can’t live on faith alone, I have a day job in marketing. The more I’ve learned about marketing optimization, the more one things was glaringly obvious…..
Jews have appalling marketing.
Did you know that Jews believe in reincarnation? Nope! I certainly didn’t and definitely not that it helps inform our path in this world.
Judaism is secretly cool. Jewish philosophy is deep and intricate. But most people don’t know about it.
This blog is my own small attempt to rebrand Judaism, to let people see the beauty in it as a spiritual path, to find meaning without getting bogged down in Jewish ritual. (Don’t get me wrong ritual and tradition is important but it’s not what I’m here to talk about.)
In what I jokingly call my spare time, I also write books. My alter-ego is Catherine Green. When I write for the Young Adult market I write books about funky college students that exchange witty one-liners and also happen to be religious. In my head I also write books for adults that clothe deep theological concepts in fantasy stories. (May it be His Will, soon these books will exist outside of my imagination.)
